Ok heres the problem, for a while now my internet has been constantly dropping out whenever im trying to play FFXI online. Sometimes (not often) everything will work fine and my connection speed remains at 54mbps. However, some days it begins to drop to 48mbps, then to 36 then down to 11, then 5.5, and.... Disconnect!

i really have no clue what the problem is :/

Re: Constant slow connection and disconnecting

If you're wireless try wired, if it works fine with an ethernet cable the problem is not with the computer but with the wi-fi signal. If so try to move the computer or the wi-fi router and see if the signal's strength stays steady or buy an amplificator antenna like this one.

I'll move your thread to the networking support section

Some things you can try here.

  1. For wireless connections, change the channel on the router, I like channels 1, 6, and 11 in the US.
  2. For wireless connections, try moving either the wireless router/AP or the wireless computer. Even a couple of feet will sometimes make a big difference.
  3. Update the firmware to the latest version available on the manufacturer's site.
  4. Reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure.
  5. Update the network drivers (wired and wireless) on your computer to the latest available.

Many times these measures will resolve a lot of intermittent issues.

For simple range issues...

Hawking Tech has a number of products that will help you increase your wireless range. The root page is Hawking Hi-Gain™ WiFi Range Extending Products.

Some of the more interesting products are this Hawking [HSB2] Hi-Gain WiFi Signal Booster, which can be used on either end of a wireless connection to boost the signal power.

Another way to increase your signal strength is by the use of hi-gain antennas. You can choose from omni-directional or directional models, here are a some examples.

Hawking [HAI7SIP] Hi-Gain 7dBi Omni-Directional Antenna

Hawking [HAI15SC] Hi-Gain 15dBi Corner Antenna

[HAO14SD] Outdoor Hi-Gain 14dBi Directional Antenna Kit

For really long range outdoor applications, this 24dB parabolic WiFi Antenna may be a good choice.

This is just a sample of available products, many people have hi-gain antennas with similar specifications, but I haven't seen any other suppliers of signal boosters.
