So the computer I built a year and a half ago (running a bootleged copy of XP SP 2 I got from a friend :-\) got some horrible virus.

I have decided that now would be a good time to (legally) upgrade to vista. My questions and concerns are as follows:

I think I've narrowed it down to Vista Home Premium with SP1, but should I get OEM or retail? What is the difference between the 2? After a little time looking it up, I couldn't come to any real conclusions about the benefits of either one.

Upgrade vs Full? What do I need to have in order to just get the upgrade?

32 bit vs. 64 bit? I have the processor for it, but from what i've read, the 64-bit vista seems like a pain...

And for more of a final question, would I be able to install this version of vista?

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, I think you have been neutered, even Vista will complain about your illegal copy you will not be able to get SP's. I agree, wait for Seven, then do a fresh install back up your data I hope you have documents on a legit copy of Word otherwise you may have problems. As far as I know MS will not be enabling upgrades from XP to Seven, only Vista.

I'd suggest telling your "friend" to not bootleg OSs as any smart individual will know that it will be non legit and the OS itself will know this, and it will either report it to Microsoft and give you a hefty fine or the usual; just not work properly.
