How do I stop my dial-up internet connection from trying to connect to the network automatically?

Assuming you are not infected with any sort of Malware, do the following.

Open Internet Explorer.

Go to Tools.

Choose Internet Options.

Select the Connections tab.

Select "Never dial a connection"

Then click Apply and then OK.

I am not that familiar with computers, so I will try to explain this to the best of my ability. My internet service is Netzero, and when I double click on the Netzero icon to display the connection screen, it trys to connect to the internet automatically by dialing a 4 digit number. In return, I receive an error message and an about blank ie7 page pops up. After I delete the error message and the about blank page I can succesfully connect to netzero. After I exit the netzero connection, it trys to automatically connect about every minute after the closed connection. To eliminate the frustration, I just minimize the blank window and the error message window and it stops.

If the service worked properly at one time, then something is either mis-configured or corrupt.

You may want to delete and re-install the NetZero software or check on how to properly configure it.
