Hi. I'm not at all proficient in wireless technology and I think I may have made a little mistake (not that costly because I could always return it). Basically, I've had a headset and mic for the past few years to use with my pc and I've been getting fed up with the wires getting increasingly hard to untangle, so I thought I should make my next headset a wireless one. As the product description stated "wired and wireless stereo headphone," I assumed that it was like a wireless mouse and allowed me to use it in conjunction with my pc. However, now that I've received it, the instruction manual only talks about wirelessly connecting it to one's phone. The problem, though, is that I don't want to use it with my phone (which does work, by the way) -- again, I want to use it with my pc. Is there any way to get around this and get it to work with my pc (even something I could buy to make it compatible), or do I just have to return it and get another one? Thanks.

Thank you for your response. It's an Archeer AH07 -- had good reviews on Amazon. I don't think, at all, that there's anything wrong with the particular unit I received. The fact that it DOES work with my phone is a strong indication of that. The issue, therefore, is whether I just don't understand the technology and it's impossible to connect such headphones to a pc. Keep in mind that, unlike a wireless mouse, it didn't include the little piece you plug into you USB port to allow the computer to "find" the mouse.

If I have to return it, I will, but if there's some way to make it work, that would be my preference. I actually DO like the feel, and the sound quality when connected to my phone was not bad at all. Plus, it's one thing if I bought it in a store, but since I bought it online, it would involve having to send it back, which is always kind of a pain.

It's a bluetooth headset, so it should work not only with your phone, but with your pc as well, so long as you have a bluetooth adapter on your computer. Most laptops have inbuilt bluetooth adapters, some desktops come with one attached and there are usb adapters (dongles) that you can readily purchase and attach to your pc. All you need to do is pair the headset with your computer, same way you did with your phone.

Okay, so there IS, in fact, a way to make it compatible, but I just don't yet have the proper equipment is what it sounds like. You mentioned a "dongle." I actually have one from one of those Fitbit fitness-tracking watch devices. I tried plugging that in to my USB port, but nothing happened. Does that mean that it's just still not working, or are these "dongles" not universal? That is, could that dongle I have from Fitbit only work with Fitbit devices and I'll have to buy a more general one?

And if I do have to buy a more general one, if you can't make specific recommendations, do you at least have any ideas of what to look for? One thing I certainly don't want to do is to spend so much on it that it would be cheaper just to buy a different headset. Thanks.

Depending on your location, dongles will vary from as low as less than $1! In my country we have a lot of generic usb 2.0 (off-brand) adapters that go for about $4 VAT included, and that's what people buy for use with bluetooth speaker systems.

Follow the link in the previous reply and check out related items to get an idea of how much you would spend on a top rated or lowest price adapter, and also take a look at other stores like newegg for a wider range to choose from.

The only thing you need to look out for is the bluetooth version(s) supported by the dongle. For audio streaming, you need at least bluetooth 2.0 (these are the most popular) as it features the A2DP profile required (Google it), and perhaps the lowest version you'll find in the market unless you are collecting v1.1 as an artifact. My advice is, go for the highest version, ie bluetooth 4.0, preferably with the LE (low energy) specification; it is compatible with lower versions while supporting a lot more profiles which may not be of interest to you right now, but you may find more use for it than just audio streaming, not to mention high speed data rates compared to older versions, so transferring files and sharing Internet connectivity among other high data rate applications will be a breeze.

That is GREAT info. Thanks so much!

PS. By the way, inserting that Fitbit dongle into my USB port (I mentioned in an above post) has apparently somehow damaged my computer's sound system, but I'm creating another thread about that in the Sound Card forum. If it's not one thing it's another...

You're welcome. The sound problem could just be a coincidence and may have nothing to do with the dongle. I'll follow that thread too, mostly out of curiosity as it'll be my first time to hear of a usb dongle damaging a sound card.
