Connecting external screen to laptop

Hi, I connected a Sony SDM-V72W called a Personal Entertainment Display to my Sony Viao Laptop computer System Model PCG-R505ES(UC). I want a larger screen then the one I have with my laptop. My husband uploaded the CD, connected the cables from the Screen to the laptop and plugged it in to the wall socket. However, when we start the laptop, the external screen doesn't start up. Does anyone know if this can be done and how? Thanks so much :upset:

I don't use a sony but on my laptop to use an external screen it would be necessary to press the Fn key and one of the F numbers - it could be that you have to do something like this.
Thanks Auntiej. That was exactly what it was. We had to press the function keys. I have a small laptop which I use when I'm in New York, thus the larger screen, but I would like to attach a keyboard that I have. I guess the same would apply?

Thanks.
to be honest I'm not sure just now, but I'll try and find out for you. Glad you were able to sort out the screen though.
hiya, I could not find anything that suggested you would have to use the function keys with a usb keyboard, however it may just be necessary to check in the keyboard setting area of Control Panel that the correct keyboard is picked up. If you have a ps2 keyboard you may need a ps2 to usb adaptor. HTH
Thanks. I'll give it a try. Let you know how it turns out.
