Hey everyone,

Ok the problem is that I bought a s-video cable to connect my laptop to my tv and it worked great but I had to disconnect it and when I tried to connect it again it did not work. It does not show the image it just stays black. I tried buying a different connection cable, a vga to hdmi cable, and it does the same thing the screen of the tv just stays black. If anyone knows how I can get it to work again it would be a great help.

What brand of laptop do you have? On most laptops, once you have it connected, you need to switch the display so it outputs it to the TV. On my Dell laptop, I have to hold in the Fn button and press the CRT/LCD button (which is my F8 button).

If you do not have HOT KEYS for swapping go to CONTROL PANEL> DISPLAY> SETTINGS you can adjust for the new display in there.

I am very familiar with this process, My home & Work computers all are connected to multiple monitors or TVs.

The laptop I use is a Toshiba Satalite series. The first time I connected it to the tv it worked fine I did not have to switch any settings, once I connected the picture appeared on the tv. However I had to disconnect the laptop and once I tried to connect it again the picture did not show on the tv anymore it just stayed black. I tried using a different laptop and the picture stayed black the same way.

Yeah when I connect it to the tv the tv says there is no signal. the first time I connected it to the tv I used a s-video cable and it worked for the first time. Than I switched the cable because it had stopped working. I switched to a vga cable that the other side is a hdmi connection, so it is two different inputs in my tv, for the s-video the input was av1 and for the hdmi/vga cable I put it into hdmi 3 input.

Okay since my last post, I have called Philips, the maker of my tv, and they had me do a tv upgrade and that still did not work. I tried a different laptop and it still does not work. I also tried putting the hdmi end into different hdmi inputs. Philips did not find the answer why the first time I connected it worked and now it is not, hopefully you guys can help me out with this problem.

The only thing I can think of right now is the TV is refusing the HDMI input because it is not HDCP compatible. That would be my only guess right now.

I have seen a TV put the screen up once, or just the start and then quit because it was not an HDCP connection.

No, I dont think that is the problem because the tv has a connection that you set the hdmi input to a pc, it can be set to a dvd, game etc... so right now I have it set to pc.

try this
1. Save and close any open files, and exit any open application programs.
2. Shut down your computer.
3. Connect the proper video cable to the S-video TV-out connector on your computer. See "TV and Digital Audio."
4. Turn on your TV.
5. Verify that the correct video input is selected on the TV.
6. Restart your computer.
7. Click the Start button, and click Control Panel.
8. Under Pick a category, click Appearance and Themes.
9. Under Pick a task..., click Change the screen resolution.
10. In the Display Properties window, click the Settings tab, and then adjust the Screen resolution setting to 800 by 600 pixels.
11. Click the pull-down menu under Color quality, and then click Medium (16 bit).
12. Click OK.

I tried the article, the problem is that once I go the the advance settings I do not have an option for the s3 tab, which I guess is my graphics card. The tabs that I have once I click the advance button are "General", "Adapter", "Monitor", "Troubleshoot", and "Color Management".

hey guys,
I have good news I got another s-video cable and I finally got the image to work. I wonder why it doesnt work with the vga cable? I am going to keep trying to make it work with the vga cable since it is a better image. I have one last question though. How can I make the image better quality? I have switched the resolution from 1280x800 to 800x600 and that helped a little, is there anything else I can do make the image a little better?
