Configuring Extra IP's

1260 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Tekmazter
Hi,

I have got 6 IP's from my ISP. The cable is connected to a Linksys Router and the main IP is binded there.

How can I configure other IP's on my proxy and email servers.

Thanks

Are you hosting your other servers in the DMZ or on the main LAN?

Regardless, you're going to have to NAT unless you host a switch on the outside of your Linksys (NOT RECOMMENDED!).
Well, the other servers will not be in DMZ. Could you please guide me to some article or website.

Thanks
If the servers are inside your router/firewall then you can't really use the external IPs for them. You have to do some kind of port forwarding on the router.
If you want them to use the external IPs then you'll have to put them outside of that router.
I think the real limitation here is the fact you're using a Linksys router. Had you a small SOHO firewall (SonicWall, CISCO ASA/PIX) you could easily pull this off. However, since you're using a Linksys, and if I remember correctly, you're limited to a single NAT which is actually a PAT which as mentioned by TheEmperor, requires that you port forward. However, the Linksys nullifies your 6 static IP's.

That is of course unles you put a switch on the outside of your Linksys.
So, in a nutshell I need to buy a firewall.

Now, if I have to buy a new firewall, than which one you guys recommend which will easily provide capability of extra ip's plus the VPN.

Personally I have a lot of experience with CISCO and way back --Checkpoint. However, technology has come a LONG way and I would think if you did a quick Google, products by Sonicwall etc... would start showing up. Sonicwall makes a good product however, my experience is extremely limited with them.

Anyone else care to chime in here.
