Actually what I want to do is I configure my PC to communicate only via 802.11b and not a/g as well, how do I do this on XP Pro?

Some network cards have this option in the network configuration. Please post back with more details on your hardware and we can help you better.

You should be able to set it in Device Manager.
Go, to Start, Run, type devmgmt.msc then click the
plus sign next to Network adapters, right click the wireless
adapter, select properties, Advanced, Network type and in the
drop down to the right select 802.11b and click ok.
