I have a Presario EZ 2200 that refuses to boot. When powered up, it buzzes and the LCD says "push to start". Nothing I can push starts anything. The power supply fan doesn't spin, the drives don't initialize. Nothing happens except the buzzing which continues until I turn off the surge protector to kill the power.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks.

I'm a little lost..(not the first time, probably not the last) you said you could turn the system on.., you could see things on the screen, could you explain when you get this message on your screen? is it as soon as you press the power button?, does the system make any noise at all prior to the message being displayed?

Is the system new?

Also, nothing I do to the computer changes how it acts. The only way I can change the state it is in is my pulling the power plug. When the power is on I get the picture I showed you, when the power is off, well, it's off.

Like the visual,

Is any hardware freshly installed?, also the light that was on in the second shot, was that the cdrom light or HD light and does it stay lit continuously?

Nope, it has been like that for four months. Since then I've just been using a laptop, but now that it is summer I want to go back down in the basement (where that computer is). That was the cd-rom light, sorry, I took them and saw how dark they were after I took them, but I didn't feel like going back down in the basement, I'll take another one if you want and use the flash - if that would help.

FYI, I copied the same question I found at http://communities.compaq.com/servlet/ProcessRequest?RHIVEID=121&RNAME=ViewQuestion&HOID=5079000000080000007F020100&ECategory=PC+System+Maintenance.PC+System+Troubleshooting&UQUESTION_0=ez&UQUESTION_S=0 because it is identical to my problem. Unfortunately, nothing was resolved. I contacted the person who submitted the query to see if how he fixed it since then, if he did.

The "no signal" on the monitor is a clue. (Nice camera BTW)

Check to see if the monitor is plugged in all the way to the vid card. If it is, pull the monitor cord (from the vid card) and look for bent pins. Look in the socket of the vid card for connections pushed back too far. It happened to me at work, someone moved a computer, and forced a bent pin in the card pushing one of those little rings back in the socket. No signal.

Haha, are you mocking my camera? It was just bad lighting and laziness that produced those pictures. Ok, thanks, I will try that and report back. I don't think that is the problem though, because the monitor works fine.

Does that CDROM light stay on continuously?

If so try disconnecting it from the system and see if it will boot.
I had a floppy drive that was shorted or somthing whenever it was connected to the mobo the system would not start.

It's a Canon Powershot A10. I just took another, better, clearer picture, but my camera won't connect to my computer.

Yeah, I am going to try to disconnect the cd rom drive, I'll make sure there is no power supply running through it. However, this does not rule out the chance that I will kill someone in the process - whether it be the computer or me. I'll be back once I disconnect it.

BTW, that picture of me with the blue hair is rather tame compared to everything else on my site. My site is basically just a soapbox that my friends go to. I'm hoping to get a good following of stalkers though. Only time will tell.

Ok, I started the destruction of my computer:

This can't be good...

Ok, this is what it looks like when I separated it to be able to get to the cd rom drives

Unfortunately, when I try to take out the cd rom drive it is still attached to a few cords.

So, do you know what to do now? Or should I just put it back together before I cripple the thing?

Thanks.

Looks kinda normal to me. Since the warrenty is definitely void now, keep ripping. You don't sound stupid, you should be able to handle it. Keep on rippi'n.

You murdered Bohemian rapsody BTW. It was funny, though.
Hop on audiogalaxy and download anything by "anton maiden".
Same basic thing but more metallic. Worse vocals yet.

Yeah, I think I will just keep ripping. Once I get this computer back up and running, my recording studio will be back! If you want to hear some funnier parodies I have done, check these out. I didn't post them because they are kind of inappropriate:
