Hello, I'm a 14 year old and i built my first PC about a month ago, and it wouldn't display on the hd tv i had it plugged into via HDMI cord. i tried starting it up again several more times but still nothing (the computer's fans, lights, everything starts seemingly normal). So i then decided to take apart the computer, rebuild it, and try starting it up again several times, with different VGA and HDMI cords and that didn't work at all either. After looking online i tried almost everything the faq's said to try but nothing worked. Then I read that it may be a busted graphics card, then i remembered i had used an old dusty one i cleaned out, and figured that has to be the problem, so i bought one online. as soon as it came i took apart the entire computer, and rebuilt it with the new graphics card, and to my surprise, nothing, the same exact thing happened, computer starts up, led's flick on, fans spin, but no image. I'm extremely desperate to get this thing up and running as I had spent around $150-$200 on it (i have an SSD, HDD, copy of Win 8.1 and disk drive my dad gave me so i didn't have to buy those). So if anyone can give me any help, that would be so amazing, i just want a PC to play some games on. thanks!

My specs are listed here:
EVGA GeForce 8400GS 1GB SDDR3
Diablotek DA Series 600-Watt ATX Power Supply PSDA600
Viotek VT-365 ATX Computer Case - Front USB 3.0 - 120mm & 80mm Red LED Fans
Gigabyte AM3+ AMD DDR3 1333 760G HDMI USB 3.0 Micro ATX Motherboard GA-78LMT-USB3
AMD Sempron 145 2.8 ghz AM3 Processor
If anyone can tell me if these parts are incompatible i would be greatly thankful

(I know i wont be able to play many demanding games, its more of a placeholder pc until i can afford better parts)

Don't give up on building computers my friend but remember to research your build before building it. Your PSU is crap. TSF recommends Corsair and NZXT PSUs. Also, make sure the unit offers 80+ certified power.

That may be your recommendation, but I can easily say that many here will no longer recommend Corsair PSUs especially since nearly all of them are made by a low quality manufacturer now. As for NZXT, only some of their models are good for use.

The best recommendation I'd give is using a Seasonic or XFX branded unit.

The one thing that catches my eye is the non mention of a CPU cooler...either stock or after market. Do you have one installed on your CPU?m What REV (revision) is your mobo? Are you sure it will work with that "SINGLE" core CPU you have listed?

update: took out all parts and rebuilt the pc while watching a guide video in case i did something wrong before, now the pc wont even turn on and i'm pretty sure i smell a faint burning rubber scent. probably just gonna sell all these parts and buy a pre-built...

Did you forget to turn the PSU's on/off switch before taking your build down? On another note, Masterchief has published a recommended build guide on this site as well as a Bench Test, Build, and troubleshoot guide. Great guides for anyone really. You can find them under the Tech Support Articles tab on the main page.

Yeah that's what i thought it was... I am probably going to sell this pc minus the psu/buy a new one for the purpose of selling it and save up for a pre built. I've been looking at this one, mainly because its fairly cheap and has pretty good specs and really good reviews, could anyone back them up? Robot Check

Yeah I have, I don't know if I want to go through the hassle of buying and waiting for different parts to come in, as i've had a lot of problems with ups and usps when buying my other parts. And the most i'm willing to spend is around $400, assuming i can get $275-300 for my pc if i sell it alog with my copy of Win 8.1, hdd, ssd, and etc. And its not so easy to get money as i cannot get a job, so i almost never really get much money of my own unless its for my birthday or something.
