My computer will start up, it will show the screen with my motherboard's name asus and give the options to choose to start the bios or boot options. Right after that screen typically the windows logo would show up and start loading. However, it no longer shows the windows loading screen but just goes black after the asus one. I cannot do anything from that screen.

I have tried putting in the windows vista home premium disk and tried the repair options but it was unable to find anything. I then continued to try to system restore from that same disk which it claimed it successfully did, however, upon restarting the computer would still receive the black screen.

Is there any other troubleshooting options that I can try to get windows to load up? If not, is there anyway I can move my data that's on the internal hard drive onto the external one without windows being started? (possibly through the dos prompt?).

Hi and welcome to TSF have you checked you cables and connections,next I would back up all my data you can use this method http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/wind...backup-files-from-your-dead-windows-computer/ you need a working computer to make a disc so if you have one or a friend who can help
