Hi everyone, hope this is in the right Forum. I have a desktop running a NVDIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS, driver 6.14... etc. With my previous video card, a GeForce 7600 GT, I could plug into my HDTV and watch movies from my computer without many complaints. With this new card, however, I am having troubles getting a quality picture. I am using a DVI to HDMI cable to plug into my TV, which is a Philips 42" LCD, model info can be found here http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/4/42pfl5332d_37/42pfl5332d_37_pss_aen.pdf

The TV works wonderfully with my 360, best picture I could ask for. Movies from my desktop can be decent at times, but most of my problems occur in high or low-light situations. Things get cloudy, there seems to be low-contrast or something. I noticed it watching The Matrix the other day, in the opening scene with Trinity in the apartment building and the police barge in the door, their flashlights are very cloudy on the walls, and the dark areas are gray-ish. Not sure if this is due to contrast, pixelation, or what. I haven't had much practice with sending a computer signal to a HDTV, with my last card I just plugged it in and it worked well.
I downloaded Powerstrip but am confused on how to use it, tried to make a custom resolution to 1366x768 to match the resolution of the TV, but the test failed and I couldn't create the resolution. Currently I am running a resolution of 1280x720. Most things come out clear, and even now as I type I can see text, though the edges are slightly blurred. Still quite readable, but not defined. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'd love to be able to watch my movies on my TV in better quality. Thank you to anyone in advance that might have more knowledge than myself in this subject.

Does your 8600 actually support hdmi output through it's dvi connections? Some cards actually do not support this, but will still happen to work. It's all pure chance if it will work on an unsupported card.

What cable where you using with the 7600?
