I installed the maximum 4GB of RAM into my Dimension months ago, been working fine, now I turn on the computer and it says system memory has changed, press f2 to run setup. I did so but the memory section says fields can't be changed, and when I run the computer now it says it has only 3GB of RAM.

Your board probably only supports 3gb of RAM. Thats the issue.

Go to crucial.com, run a system scan and post the results here.

32 bit Windows (XP, Vista, and 7) only supports 3 GB of RAM. To recognize 4GB or more of RAM you must use the 64 Bit version of Windows.

This is weird, since I was sure that I had 1GB cards in each slot, guess I need to crack it open to double check, though it doesn't matter if I am on 32 bits? It's XP Professional, and if the system clock is just the clock always at the bottom of the screen then yeah it keeps time.

If he has a 32 bit system should it not show 3.25 gb of ram as mine does on a 32 bit system.

Anywhere between 2.8 to 3.5 gig usually around 3.2 gig, depending on decapitated video ram and address space needed for system devices.

Weird, it says I have two 512's and two 1's as well, so I guess i'm just crazy, it was just that system memory has changed message and my programs have started running substantially slower so i'm not sure what's wrong.

Give us some screen shots of the CPU, Mainboard, and all the slots on the SPD tab, use the "Go Advanced" button and the attachment(paperclip at the top) feature on the advanced message box, you'll have to make a couple of post to get them all in,
