Hey everyone, I've been trying to solve this problem for a bit now with no luck, I hope these forums can help!

Anyways, this computer belongs to a friend of mine and I took it on for him to help him fix it.

He says he took it down to BestBuy and had them see what was wrong with it, they told him it was a faulty motherboard, so he had me replace the mobo for him.

Well, I replace the old one with a new motherboard (it's 100% compatible with old components in PC), started the computer, and nothing appears on the monitor...

You can see the power supply, motherboard, and fans inside all working, but no video from it at all, and no, the motherboard comes with onboard graphics, so it's not a video card problem.

So I call this friend, he tells me that this is the same problem he was having before... figures... can't trust BestBuy for nothing...

I figure the old motherboard probably has nothing wrong with it, and this problem is related to something else, but I am at a total loss for what it is.

So, that's where I sit at the moment, anyone have any ideas? I appreciate any help!

I forgot to mention his PC has a PCI-E video card, I had no luck with it nor the onboard graphics.

His power supply should be working, all lights turn on, the mobo and fans power up... plus, that sounds like the last thing I should try... *shiver*

I think this problem might be due to something else, possibly a faulty CPU? RAM? Hard Drive?

hehehehheh there are MANY aspects of a power supply ...... they can turn on and power some stuff but not be healthy enough to power up the motherboard

PSU swap is candy >>>>>> next easiest thing to memory sticks

OK, well I switched the power supply from my working build and tried it out in his computer, and... it's still doing the same thing.

So, now I know that:

A) It's not his motherboard as I have replaced it.
B) It's not his PSU as I have tested mine in his computer.

Could it possibly be the processor?

just just one stick of ram ............... if no go ................ try the other single stick

always use the ram slot closest to the cpu during single stick operation

check the listings in the bios for voltages and temperatures and post them
You cannot get to the Bios, there is nothing when you turn it on, it's like I don't even have a computer plugged into the monitor.

It's a PCI-E video card with a VGA connector, I am unsure of the brand or make as it doesn't say anything anywhere on it. The card was not from the computers manufacturer.

As for the build itself, you can find it's info here.

I replaced the existing motherboard with an ASUS A8V-VM

I am not exactly sure what you want me to do from what you said in this post...

I am assuming you want me to test running the RAM in single channel mode? Or possibly find another compatible stick of RAM and test it out in there?

most computers have at least two sticks of ram /////////////

remove one of them ................. insert the remaining stick in the memory slot closest to the cpu and start the machine ?????????
