My computer is a hybrid: It has the dvd rom, cd-r drive, and hard drive I got with my compaq, a new case i bought from global (250watt) and a brand new modem and graphics card (XTasy Everything 5564). And also a NIC i had from my old compaq.
The problem is this: my computer boots, beeps once (that means
it's POST-ing right?) and then greets me with the splash screen that my new MSI socket 370 (Intel815) system board puts up. But before anything else happens, the computer completely shuts off. if i try it again, i either get the same thing, or some kind of memory screen for my video card. is my power supply insufficient?
Please shed some light. thanks.

PS

PS: I've already tried the following things:
1)Switching the SDRAM module
2)Unplugging the power from my optical drives
3)quickly pressing the delete key to get into cmos
b4 it shuts down
4)re-arranging my PCI cards (NIC and modem)
5)shouting at and arguing with my computer

none have yielded any different results.

and one more thing: there is a whole bundle of 8 small wires coming from my case. they are similar in size and shape to the case connector wires (speaker, pwr switch, pwr led, etc), but all
have only one connector. The are labeled things like "2 ground," "1 +5v," and "1 -D." My motherboard doesn't seem to have a place to connect these. Could they be the problem?

man and I thought you would get it with #5

damm now that that didnt work....strip the machine...memory modem nic...to the bare bones...now boot .......what happens....if it works install one item at a time and you should narrow down your culprit
