Hey, I have a P4 2.8Ghz with 1gig 3200ddr RAM on a computer which was formatted roughly a month ago.

A few days ago the computer started to run incredibly slowly. For instance it takes about 20 minutes to start up, a good 5 minutes to open programs such as Word, IE or MSN. the computer even locked up trying to create this HijackThis log :

I can't figure out what is wrong with it. I have done AdAware scans in safe mode with System Restore off, Norton virus scans, online virus scans (in which I found a few non-threating viruses such as Byte.Verify). My CPU temperature is 65°C

I really am stuck, any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should 'not' have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below. Also if you have any programs that may prevent system changes (like Spybot's TeaTimer program, Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, and others), make sure you disable them before doing any of the fixes (or accept the changes for the fix we give you when asked by the programs).

Go to My Computer->Tools (or View)->Folder Options->View tab:
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders (it's Show all files for Windows 98).
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm and then click OK.

For the options that you checked/enabled earlier, you may uncheck them after your log is clean. If we ask you to fix a program that you use or want to keep, please post back saying that (we don't know every program that exists, so we may tell you to delete a program that we think is bad to keep).

Before you do anything else, please create a folder for HijackThis and put it in a permanent folder (like C:\HJT) instead of the Temp folder. This is required because HijackThis will create backups and we don't want them to be deleted.

Download ewido security suite from here… http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Update it's database from here.. http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/
Run a scan and let it clean the PC.

Save the log and post it here.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode (if you don't know how, go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=61 ). Make sure to close any open browsers.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following if they still exist and hit 'Fix Checked' after you check the last one:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {6001CDF7-6F45-471b-A203-0225615E35A7} - C:\WINDOWS\DH.dll (file missing)

Locate the following Files/Folders and delete them if they exist (if no location given, just do a search for them):

C:\WINDOWS\DH.dll

· Reboot your system in Normal Mode.

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda ActiveScan

Click on the "Free To Use ActiveScan" located on the top right hand corner
  1. Click Check Now and a "pop up" window will appear. * Please ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it *
  2. Enter your e-mail address, country, and state & click Scan Now * The download of the 8 MB Panda's ActiveX control will take place *
Begin the scan by selecting My Computer
  • If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.[*] Please ignore any entry it finds and the offer to buy the program to remove the entry, as we will address this later. [*] Click on See report then click Save report
*You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
*Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan

Paste the Panda Scan report here together with a new HiJack This log. Also include the ewdio log from earlier.

Hey, Ok I've done all those things except get HJT to delete a value it found the first time (the DH.dll one) because it wasn't picked up on the scan again.

Follow the instructions outlined here to clear Sun Java's cache.

Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. CleanUp! deletes EVERYTHING out of your temp/temporary folders, it does not make backups. If you have any documents or programs that are saved in any Temporary Folders, please make a backup of these before running CleanUp!. Run CleanUp! and click on the Options button. Uncheck 'Scan local drives for temporary files'. Also uncheck those two Newsgroup entries if you don't want to delete them. Click OK and then click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run. After it's done, choose Yes to logoff.

Restart your computer and boot into Safe Mode (if you don't know how, go to http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=61 ). Make sure to close any open browsers.

Locate the following Files/Folders and delete them if they exist (if no location given, just do a search for them):

C:\WINDOWS\drsmartload2.dat
D:\Downloads\EvID4226Patch.exe
D:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\f3initialsetup1.0.0.8-2.inf

Restart and run a new HijackThis scan. Save the log file and post it here along with another Panda Scan
