Hey everyone, and thanks ahead of time for taking a second to read this. I have had my computer for about 3 years now and I have never had an issue, but lately my computer is randomly restarting. Now it is not completely random. Say I try to run netflix and a flash game at the same time, it will crash after about maybe 10 minutes. If I am playing something with more graphics it can crash faster. Then again I can run Civ 5 for hours with no issues at all. Any suggestion will help, specs are below.

Age of the system?

Please provide your temperatures during idle (when not running any programs and just sitting on the desktop).

Please provide your temperatures during stress (running a game, using hardware diagnostic software, rendering a video, running a full virus scan, etc.).

Use the following programs to monitor the temperatures.

Use HWMonitor to provide the voltages seen during idle and under stress, as well. Please capture an image of HWMonitor using the snipping tool rather than saving a text file.

I can't guarantee that the overheating is the only problem, but it is the most likely. A power supply fault is still a possibility, but the overheating is of utmost concern at the moment and should be taken care of before worrying about other hardware.

So, I know its not a permanent fix. But just a small update. I took a window fan and put it next to my computer. I got my idle temp down to 50°c and I played my flash game with NO CRASH. Temp got up to about 90°c but is still a huge improvement over the 111°c I was getting. Did I mention that I am NOT CRASHING  You are a hero among men. At least this will hold me over til I can get some thermal compound.

Just be careful; you do not want to overheat the processor too often or you could damage it and need to replace it.

Can you verify that Speccy is giving the correct readings for the processor. I am 100% sure the processor was overheating, but the actual temperatures may not be accurate. Speccy has been known to give bad readings for AMD processors in the past. Try one of the other diagnostics I mentioned, e.g. HWMonitor or Real Temp.

I tried using RealTemp but it never returned any values. Since I have had the fan running on it I have not gone over 70c but I have not really taxed anything too hard (like you said, take it easy) I will try the other program but all the other temps cooled down when I started using the fan too, and it seemed pretty accurate about crashing around the same temp before.

Just finished applying some Antec Formula 6. Been gaming over an hour now and have not gone above 60°C. It's all better and no crashes. You are a hero among men good sir.
