I recently installed XP for a friend. The PC did not have a CD/DVD drive, so I used a spare that I have for the installation process.

All went while, and the system was up an running.

However, after powering off and removing my Cd/DVD drive, the system would boot. If I reconnect it, then perfect.

I tried:
Safe mode (no)
change the boot sequence (no)
uninstall in device manager and power off. (no)

Please help guys...

Plug the drive back in, boot up the PC. Upon reaching your Desktop click Start, Run type devmgmt.msc

Under Device Manager locate your CD Drive, right-click, disable. Shut down PC, disconnet drive then boot up again.

Thanks guys, but again...

1. The boot order is HDD first. Even such that I totally removed Cd from boot order.

2. I have uninstalled and disabled the device from device manager, but upon removal, the system does not boot.

Weird!
