I have a computer that is constantly either
freezing or spotaneously rebooting.
the os is winxp pro
hardware: AMD1700+ XP
256 MB DDR266
PC-Chips mb(sound, lan OB)
the computer uses Mcafee viruscan online & Mcafee firewall so I'm pretty sure there aren't any viruses on the machine

Are there any programs for motherboard,
and harddrive diagnostics

Maxtor and Western Digital both have diagnostic utilities free at their websites. Your motherboard manufacturer might have a utility as well.

Do you update your McAfee every week with the newest definitions? Are you protected from the BlasterWorm with the latest patches from Windows Update?

Ruling out a virus, my guess is either overheating or the power supply. How old is your power supply, what brand, and what wattage? When I've had power supply problems, I'd get reboots and all kinds of crazy things.
