When I boot my system, it freezes on the XP splash screen with the little green progress bar. This worries me because the same thing has happened before I upgraded to XP x64. It makes me think that it might be hardware related. The only programs that i had installed both times were speedfan, windows defender (a different version due to the 64 bit upgrade, of course), thunderbird, and firefox. Booting in safe mode doesn't help either. Any ideas?

it may be hareware related, like the HD...

or it could just be that 1 of the Windows files is corrupted or damaged..

I don't think it's the HD. I've used two different disks with the same result. It always works fine for a while after a fresh install of windows, but then the issue starts up again. Is it possible that it could be some other hardware issue?

How about software? Is there any program that you know of that causes this issue? It's just odd because I've done about 3 fresh installs of windows, 2 different versions (x86 and x64) and the same thing has happened before. I can't remember how I solved the problem before.

Did a quick google search, apparently this is a big problem. It also seems like no one really knows exactly why it happens. I've heard everything from video card drivers to a failed mobo.

BTW: I know I made myself sound a little dumb earlier, meant .32, not x86.
