Hello all,

Im posting this in this forum because I speculatively think the PSU is the culprit for my issue, but im not sure.

In the last two weeks, my computer has started freezing briefly, usually for less than a second, before resuming. Any music/ video that is playing makes a 'brrz' noise, and the mouse becomes non responsive.

Im pretty sure I have eliminated a software fault as the cause, but I am really stumped as to the cause. I suspect it could be the power supply, but as I said, im not sure.

Has anyone experienced an issue like this, or have any suggestions as to identify which, if any, piece of hardware is causing the issue? The computer is only about a year old, and I recently dusted it inside.

Any help would be really appreciated!

Post the specs as requested.

MB-CPU-RAM-GPU-PSU brand/wattage

Also post the temp and voltage readings from the BIOS (System Setup Menu) usually

found under Hardware Monitor or PC Health Status or similar

You'll need to open the side panel to find the PSU details, it's usually on a sticker on the side of the PSU. The report shows it's a Packard Bell PC. These OEM companies use low quality PSUs for their systems, so it wouldn't surprise me if yours is failing. How long have you had it?

Also post the info requested by makinu1der2.

Stu_computer - There isn't anything of note in hardware manager, one disk error in the last 7 days, nothing in the critical category.

Markgg88/ makinu1der2 - I'll get the PSU details. I don't mind upgrading it, but is there any way to check if that if definitely the issue? I have had the computer about 8 months.

easiest way to eliminate the software as a suspect is to use a linux live CD, if problem still occurs then it's definetly hardware.

is this computer plugged directly into a wall outlet, or do u have a UPS?
is there any electrical appliances sharing that branch circuit (ie: heater, toaster, hair dryer)?

NVIDIA lists a minimum psu for a GeForce GT 320 as 300watts.

so looks like the video card has worn out that psu and it's already starting to have trouble keeping up with the load changes. it's time for a replacement.

I think it is indeed the PSU. 250 w is extremely low for your setup, not to mention Delta PSU's are low quality to begin with. You definitely need a good quality 550 w minimum PSU.

Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W ATX12V V2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply

It's out of stock, you don't need to get it from newegg, I'm just showing you what you need to get.

Edit: Found that one that is in stock : Newegg.com - Seasonic SS-560KM Active PFC F3, 560W ATX12V V2.3/EPS 12V V2.91, 80Plus Gold Certified, Modular Power Supply

Both are quality units, you can't go wrong with either.

Since it's a Corsair the 430W CX will be okay as well and saves you £10, but I wouldn't go with an alternative brandname...Corsair builds quality psu's and many other brands with higher power ratings are in fact inferior performers in comparison.

just draw a simple diagram of where you have connections and number the connections on the drawing, then compare the connectors and put a piece of masking tape-with the corresponding number--on the new connectors so you know where they will be plugged in.

Well I installed a new PSU yesterday (650W), but the issue persists, albeit it much less frequently (once in 36 hours), so the low wattage might not have been the core of the issue.

Nevertheless, many thanks for all the help everyone, at least now I have a snazzy new PSU!

Edit - OK, its actually started doing it more... I know this is the wrong forum, but does anyone have any other ideas as to the cause?
