I have an Hp Pavillion dv6 (Windows 7) with an intel core i7 and six gigs of ram. I also have an Hp w2207h monitor.

I like to make movies so i run Adobe After Effects and Adobe Premiere CS5.5 as well as Autodesk Maya 2011.

I downloaded after effects a while ago and it has been having a lot of problems(crashes, never closes properly, can never playback ram previews in full time, no matter the resolution). However, Maya runs perfectly fine. I have always associated After Effects problems with the computer using so much ram, but Maya works fine.

Main Issue:
Recently, i was browsing the web and the computer just froze, so i had to reboot. The fan is also pretty loud, despite me using keyboard cleaner to get rid of the dust. I don't suspect malware, because before Christmas we had to send it in because of the virus and they replaced the power supply and hard drive.

I'm curious about why it's always using so much ram, and if it has anything to do with why after effects runs so slow. Please Help!

Thanks.:banghead:

Considering what is running I don't see anything unusual about RAM usage. Why do you believe this to be a problem? Windows will always try to find some use for as much memory as possible, even if it is only of trivial value. Unused memory is wasted memory. The more RAM you have, the more Windows will use. This is the way it should be.

Considering that you have 2233 MB RAM free and 3712 MB available I think it is highly unlikely that memory usage is responsible for your problem.

I noticed that you have BitTorrent running. Be aware that files obtained from torrent sites are frequently infected with various forms of malware.

Yes torrents can infect your system. If you feel that you might be infected I recommend going to the link in my signature "Virus Help Instructions"

Also you mentioned froze this can be due to infections or over heating. Clean the inside of your unit with a can of compressed air (dust) cpu heat sync, and fans.

LMiller7: Alright, i didn't realize that was normal, when i noticed After Effects was running slow and not playing back previews realtime, I looked up why it was doing that and some people said it was because lack of memory, but i suppose that isn't the problem since you pointed out there is still free memory.

JackBauer_24: I am aware many torrents contain malware, and am generally pretty careful about which i download. I have also used a compressed air can to clean the fan area. If more problems arise that could be caused by a virus I will definetly follow the virus help instructions and ask for help on this site.

Thanks guys
