I recently built a computer and when I try to play games on it, it randomly freezes and the screen goes black, locks up, or the computer reboots. I have done everything I can think of and nothing seems to fix it. Here are my specs if anyone has any ideas.

MSI Neo 2 865PE Platinum Edition Mobo
3.0ghz Prescott Cpu (socket 478)
1.75gb ddr ram
450watt psu
Radeon 9600xt video card

Check the wattage requirements for your gear. 450w might be a little low for that card. I have a 9800 GTX and it requires atleast 450w with the 12v rating @ 24A.

Also, check your CPU temp from BIOS or download PC wizard at http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php

My Processor never gets hotter than 100F. I dont have that much in my system, two hard drives, two dvd drives, and three fans. Wouldn't 450 watts be enough?

A 450W is probably too low for a PCIE 9600XT which needs at least 26A/+12V.

Enter your full system specs into this power calculator and set Capacitor Aging to 25%. Click the Calculate button, then add 30% to the total to allow for PSU inefficiency. Post back with this figure and the PSU make/model and amps/+12V (see PSU label for details).

Check your temperatures and voltages with PC Wizard during gameplay when it starts to lag by pressing alt-tab to switch back to the desktop. Post back with a screenshot from the 'Voltage, Temperature & Fans' window.

I put my information in the calculator and it gave me 436watts. With the extra 30% it came out to 566 Watts. My computer never lags, it it just locks up or reboots. My video card is not pci express, its agp. So i guess the next thing to do would be to buy a higher wattage psu.

Check the temps/volts readings from PC Wizard during gameplay. This will tell you if the +12V is outside the +-5% range, indicating a weak PSU.

Ok, The lowest the voltage got was 11.74 and the processor was at 100F, Although the System temp got up to 120F
