Completely Screwed Up My Network

1262 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  johnwill
Alright this is complicated (to me atleast). The network was working fine until I had to screw around with the router to get XLink Kai working.

I have a D-Link DI-614+ router. My desktop is connected to the router via ethernet cable and is online and working fine. I am also connected wirelessly on my laptop to the router. I also have a network cable going from the router to my Xbox (this is used with the xlink kai program). I can not get the laptop and desktop to share files or anything.

I'm not that great at networking, so I don't know that much. In order to run that program, I changed the IP address to a static ip address on my desktop. It is now 192.168.0.202 and the Xbox program works fine. My laptop however is not a static IP and just grabs one automatically. I checked the work groups and they are both part of the 'Kohon' workgroup. I have no idea what is wrong and have been screwing around with it all day. All your help will be greatly appreciated.

Hey
It's hard question to answer on one leg...
Have you tried to reset the router settings, also try to reset the
laptop network setting s and see if help in any way...

When you changed your IP address to a static address, my guess is you forgot to set the default gateway to 192.168.0.1. Setting the manual IP address could have also disabled NETBIOS over TCP/IP.

Open a DOS window and type:

IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.
