well im going into unmarked waters when i started doing this, so i was hoping i wouldnt encounter anything. First so i could get the optimum help here,
I have a laptop Compaq presario C500 that came installed with vista.
4-5 years ago i bought a gateway desktop with xp. now your probably guessin whats next.
I tried using my gateway operating cd to install vista on my laptop. Vista has been deleted but no luck on installing XP.
*Blue screen error*
File \$win_NT$. ~BT\ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded.
The error code is 7
Setup cannot continue press any key to exit.
*end of error*
Now heres my thoughts. When i put my blue operating system gateway cd in the compaq laptop, under the bluescreen it did say gateway on one of the parts titles. So could it be the gateway operating system. If so would getting a newegg.com system builder XP do the trick to my problem?
it also says under description
*This software is intended for pre-installation on a new personal computer for resale. This OEM System Builder Channel software requires the assembler to provide end user support for the Windows*
is that just legal jibberish.
the description is correct. You cannot install in on your vista computer since it already had an os installed on it. You have to purchased and install the full retail version of xp if you want to be legal.
so whats the easiest way of fixing this solution. lol i got the bluescreen of death. Can someone PM me a way of fixing this in the cheapest way? so its pretty much standard that a gateway OP cd wont work on a compaq laptop?
it is also against microsofts oem eula for you to use gateways cd on your new computer. It is oem and cannot be transfered to any other computers. It can ONLY be used on the computer it was purchased with.
As I said, your only legal way is to purchase a full retail version of xp.
