hi i would like to build a computer for as cheap as possible because i only want it for downloading and general use etc. in the build i would like to include a dual core processor (about 2ghz) i don't mind between Amd or Intel which ever u thing and i would also like 2gb of ram (ddr2) the size of the hdd does not particularly mater (Seagate if possible)as things will be saved on my external one. so could help me choose he rest of the parts plz.:grin: (no monitor needed) i would prefer to buy the hardware from www.ebuyer.com however i don't rely mind as long as they ship to england. btw this is the keyboard and mouse i am would prefer to have http://www.ebuyer.com/product/104608

looks nice does newegg ship to the uk and is it any cheaper or do u know any cheaper places to buy from cause i dont know if i will have enough money i think i might buy 1gb of ram insted to upgrade later and have a 1.8 ghz dual core insted because there shouldnt be too much difference running xp which i will be running on it. this computer doesnt need to be too good because i will use me laptop to 85% of the time so wa u think ????

I am in Australia and from what i know of newegg they do not ship international, it may have changed since I last inquired.

1G of ram will be fine with XP and the same with going down to the 1.8 dual core if you need to shave some dollars off.

The only thing I might do if it is running 24/7 is to add a fan ( looks like the case will take an 80mm one on the side ) that will help increase air flow. From the pics I can not see if it will take a front fan or not but if it does I would get one. Running 24/7 is not really an issue. I run one of my computers 24/7 for a couple of years without failure and only rebooted it every now and then.

One thing to remember if it is running 24/7 is to keep an eye on dust buildup, as dust builds up heat increases as dust seems to be a good insulator, A can of compressed air does wonder every now and then

Ohh one other thing, if you are going to run 1G then you will have to get 2X512mb sticks for your ram to run in dual channel mode

Also you have the option of ditching the motherboard and video card i suggested and going something like this with onboard video. If you are not going to do ant graphics intensive stuff like games , onboard video will work fine.

you can save another 33 by going that route.

one thing I wouldn't cut down on tho is the power supply, considering you will be looking at 24/7 operation

Personally for the extra $7 I would just stick with the 1.8 but I think the 1.6 will still run XP ok, choice is really yours.

As for cases, have a look at this, it has a 120mm fan and will allow you to install another in the front ( sucking air in )

I found some cheaper ones but they didn't come with a rear fan so you would have to buy one which add's to the cost, i'll check out fan prices later

I liked the other one better as it had a 120mm fan at the rear, they move way more air than a 80mm and are quieter, the one you chose can only fit a 80.

That DVD cover you see on the case is just a removable cover, you just clip it out and install your DVD as normal and then you can clip it back in, the button you see aligns with your dvd burners button and when you press it your dvd door pushes the cover door open, very easy.

4 pin is usually the molex connector that runs from your power supply

Well the case did have 1 rear 120mm already so you really only need another for the front

i am experimenting with vmware at the moment do u know were it will save on the hdd for example linux as virtual and vista as host?

I have not really played around with VMware as ( altho i do have it ) , from my understanding when setting up you should be asked were to install it. I was told ( or read ) that it is best installed on a separate hard drive
