I have a dell Inspiron desktop with Windows 10 Home version 21H1 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7400 CPU @ 3.00GHz 3.00 GHz Ram 12.0 GB.
Response to clicks is sluggish lately. I have not added or deleted any programs or hardware. When I go to task Manager i see com surrogate using over 2 and sometimes 3 gigs of memory. When I reboot it is way down but after a day or two its back up. What to do?

Try performing a Clean Boot. If everything is working fine now you can keep it this way or, you can add one Startup item and/or Service at a time until it slows down again. When it does you will have found your culprit.

Thanks Doc! I did as you instructed and brought back services one at a time. I believe I have found the memory hogging scoundrel. If not, I'll need another office visit.
