So I have no problems connecting with wi-fi to the wireless network, but I am not able to connect to the wired connection with an Ethernet cable...

To connect a wired connection it should be very simple:
1. connect the cable
2. go to https://start.gatech.edu/ to register the device and wait 5 minutes
3. once registered, the device is free to use.

But when I try this, this happens:
1. connect cable
2. register on that page (can't connect to the internet but can go to that page while the cable is connected)
3. after 5 minutes the page disappears and I am unable to browse anything at all, connection becomes "unidentified"
4. If I try to go back to the authenticate page on the wireless connection it says "cannot find mac address"

Please help. I was using XP with same problem and last night upgraded to vista with no luck. I've tried ip renew, release, and then the reset.log and netsh ones too.

Thanks

First, do a complete shutdown.
Before turning on the computer, plug in the ethernet, turn wireless device off by a switch on the laptop.
Power up.
Open up Device Manager and make sure the ethernet is enabled under network.
Open CMD and ping yahoo or google.
