My PC has been running fine this summer then the weather turned cooler. Now when I power up, I get an almost continual beep (very short interruptions) then it powers down. If I continue to power up (12 to 15 times) it come up fine. If I power up when the machine has been on recently and is still warm, it comes up fine. I have tried to isolate the problem by replacing the motherboard (Abit KT7A before and after), the video card, and power supply (needed bigger unit anyway). I have removed all cards and each of the memory dimms but had no effect. The only thing that is constant is the case (not much chance of the problem there) and the Athlon 1.4GH processor. The people I've talked to have never heard of a processor doing this.

Is anyone familar with this kind of problem or have any ideas?

I think you have a real mystery on your hands. Perhaps you could find someone that you could test your processor in their system?

The way I troubleshoot this kind of problem is with cooling spray. If the processor is at fault, cooling it should force the error.
