closing a page,everything closes down

when i click on the red cross in right hand corner to close a page,blank page appears where the site name should be,then up pops the box,microsoft has encountered a problem and has to close, or dr watsons postmortem debugger has encountered a problem and has to close.please could someone advise me what to do and why this happens every time, many thanks.

Hi,

I think it is the problem with the Internet Explorer. Try to update the windows with Windows Update and install the updates to your machine.or else go for Internet Explorer 7.0 with SP1 if your OS is win Xp or Win 2003 Server.

if not resolved

Download the Spybot Search & Destroy software to clean the viruses from the machine.

One thing Spybot does not clean viruses from your computer. Spybot is for spyware removal.

i recently installed explorer 7,a friend told me this may solve my problem,unfortunately it made no difference at all. many thanks for trying to help me,it is much appreciated.
