I confess I'm Mac user and helpless when it comes to assisting my son overcome his nonchalance with technical matters. He bought a very small Acer Aspire notebook with a dinky 8.9" screen. It wouldn't be my cup of tea, but he loves it. I was staggered when I learned that there is no software with it — no OS disks. I believe it came loaded with the XP and it's his responsibility to make his own disks using an external drive to clone his system. Frankly I don't understand any of this, but I would be enormously grateful for advice on how he should proceed to fulfill his responsibility. Thank you up front.

It probably has a restore partition on it. When you boot up it should say something about hit this F key to restore or something, usually the F11 key. You can also make your own Restore CD's using the computer manufactures included utility.
