trying to help someone...no restore points in XP to use. Clicking D: partition in My Computer connects the internet as well as opening the partition. Set Firewall to alert all connections and no programs popup...so...it is like connecting using the modem icon (IE doesn't popup). It also says D: PROGRAMS is connecting (and not a program). If you rt. click D: PROGRAMS you can OPEN and EXPLORE and it doesn't connect to the web and opens fine. Anyway to stop this?

it doesn't do this when clicking other partitions.

figured out a workaround but it is a strange problem.

just placing the cursor over D:pROGRAMS connected to the net. After changing some settings in My computer/view I was able to click it without connecting but there was a folder that was in the exact same location on the monitor and it caused the connection too. Apparently, the cursor was actually reading that folder even though D: was not expanded. I renamed the folder so it was in a different location and that stopped D:pROGRAMS from connecting. I later changed the folder to HIDDEN attributes along with subfolders and files and it stopped it from connecting to the net too. Now I think it is just a matter of finding the file that is causing the problem. Very strange.
