1985 Chevy Elcamino 4.3 v-6 Changed water pump and also thermostat there seems to be an issue after engine heats up where gage no longer function and engine starts to run rough Is there a engine heat sensor and could this be malfunctioning? Could this be the whole problem?

Pull your plugs, look for one being fouled. Did the gauge work before?
There is a sensor on top of the intake manifold somewhere for the
temp gauge, there was on a old el camino I owned anyway.
If you replaced water pump and thermostat sounds like you were
overheating. If you ran it real hot for along time, you may have
warped a head. That is why its running rough, water fouling a plug,
or head gasket leak/both......
You didnt put the thermostat in backwards did you? I have to ask,
Ive seen it happen, backwards = no water flow.
