CDROM driver on removable laptop

Hi. I'm having problems figuring this out. I just bought a gateway solo 5100 from ebay. I'm in the process of trying to set up an operating system, but the problem occurs with a removable CDROM.

The startup disk that begins the setup for the OS tries to set up the driver for the CDROM, but it's not there because I dont' have it in. I have the floppy in to run the startup disk. I've tried a couple other things that were probably stupid because I'm not sure of how to go about doing this, but I know there has to be a way. Can anyone give me a hand?

Welcome to the TSF!

What you will need to do is after the hard drive has been prepared for the new OS do the following:

Turn on the computer, and press the F2 key when prompted to enter Setup. Using the arrow keys, select the Boot menu. On the Boot menu, select 1. [removable devices]. Press the SPACEBAR until ATAPI CD-ROM is selected as the number 1 boot device. Exit saving changes. The computer restarts.

Basically you need to boot from the OS cd to install it.
duhhhhh

*sigh* I feel sooooo......sooooooooo......dumb. I've probably even done that before. Thank you muchly. :)
