I have an HP Pavillion that's about 3 years old and up to this point has worked well. Recently my CD-RW drive has been sporadically not working. The drawer will not open and it doesn't show up on My Computer. It still shows my e drive which is my DVD drive and that works fine. Final note: where the door should open there's a red light that's been staying on. Any suggestions? I've tried the old reboot many times.

Sounds like the drive is hung, where is the red light coming from,,around the
drive bay?, or where the usual green light is lit?

it's right by the button you push - which is clear - to open the drive.

its possible that you drive has reach its lifespan already. you can also try replacing the cable and see if that works, good luck. ive had similar problems before too with the optical drives ive had and sometimes it turns out to be a bad cable. replace it and see if your drive works fine, good luck.

try another power plug and the cable refered to is the eide cable
