Obviously, the only person who knows if you should buy a new computer is you, it depends on your budget and how you use the machine. As far as the CD, there are lots of reasons it might not be working, so you'll have to provide more info. It's pretty cheap to buy a new drive, $20-30 gets you a decent one nowadays.

hello Bella welcome to the forums !
If possible, you can post make and model of you CD-ROM drive and some symptoms of the problem (cd LED light constanly on, long delay when opening/closing tray, unusual sounds, errors, etc)....post as much information as you can.

Thanks

cd rom

The make and model of my compiuter is Pionex,Pen.2 and it's 4 years old. When I put the cd in the light blinks on and off four or five times, then nothing no sound nothing. There doesn't seem to be any delays in opening or closing of the tray.I would take it to best buys or circuit city and have them fix it.I'd rather not even try that.Wasn't sure of what to do ,that's why I was wondering if it would be worth it to even bother, maybe just buy a new modem. Thanks

I would see if any of my friends would allow me to borrow a cdrom from them long enough to try to see if it works or not.......if it doesn't work then you know it is not your cdrom, but if it does then it is pretty cheap and easy to install a new one now days..........you can pick up decent cdroms for under $30 now.

Good luck,

Or just buy one - put it in and try it. If it works, great. If not, you've narrowed it down a little. Then return the one you bought.

Keep the box, packaging, all the stuff, and the receipt!

Cdroms are one of the easiest things in the world to change.........an 8 year old could do it if he could read instructions........they dont require drivers ..............just pop the old one out and hook up the new one just like the old one was and your in business. really really simple.........this is grade school simple.

Good luck,
