Hello i built a pc for a friend about 5 months ago with a asrock k7vt4a+ mother board a sony cd re-writer and a dvd rom but now there is a problem with the cd re-writer, It shows up in the bios ok but not in my computer if i got to device manager it says device is disabled but it wont enable, I have tryed another drive but it is just the same.
It is running xp pro

make sure you have the jumpers correctly configured on the rear of the drive for 'slave' or 'master' and the correct position on the ribbon cable. Make sure the connectors are tight. Try deleting the IDE channel the drive resides on in 'device manager' and restart, allowing winxp to redetect the drive and reinstall the drivers for it. Try swapping a new ribbon cable.
