CD/CVD Drive not being recognised

1002 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Nuggsy
I think this is the correct place, if not could someone please move it.

Now to the problem. If I insert a CD or DVD it is not being detected and there is no icon showing on the 'My Computer' screen.

When I go into device manager, there is a yellow exclamation mark icon on the drive name.

When I go into it and onto 'Device Status', I get the message "Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device."

Does anyone know if how I would sort the problem?

Thanks in advance.

Did you add another drive recently?

If not then check if the IDE connector is loose and attach it securely. Also check for bends on the IDE ribbon cable.

If you have added another drive, check if the master/slave jumper settings for your drive and cd/dvd are correct.
Hello Nuggsy

Delete the Upper and Lower Filters as shown here

Here is an automated fix to do the same
http://aumha.org/regfiles.htm

3/4 way down the page “Restore Missing CD Drive”
Download CDgone to your desktop.

Right click and choose Extract All,
open folder and double click on cdgone.reg

Do Not Click on EditReg.reg
See less See more
I sorted it in the end. I had to deleted the registry items mentioned.

It was something to do with iTunes so that had to be re-installed.

Close this thread if needed.
