I have a Gateway Laptop model NV57H43u that I got for Christmas... It's running Windows 7 and overall a great computer! I'm having an issue with the power saving settings...
I usually shut down my laptop at night just to save power and the life of my computer, but during the day, I like to leave it ON... After about 2 hours of inactivity, my laptop goes black and pressing the keys on the keyboard, power button, clicking the mouse do Nothing! I have to hold down the power button for about 5 seconds (which I know can't be good for my computer) and then press it again to turn it back on... Then I get the 'Dos' prompt 'Do you want to start in safe mode or 'start windows normally' (I choose this one of course)...

This is what I've tried so far...
1. From my Desktop, I Right click and choose 'Personalize'
2. Then I choose 'Screen Saver'
3. Then the Screen Saver box pops up and I have 'Wait 20 minutes' and the screen saver 'Bubbles' is selected...
4. Then Under 'Power Management' in the same box, I click on the Blue Link 'Change Power Settings'
5. Another Box pops up and I have two options, Balanced (recommended) or power saver... I have Balanced selected!
6. Next, I select 'choose what the power buttons do' and my laptop is usally plugged in, so the screen says, when I press the power button -- shut down; When I press the sleep button -- Sleep; When I close the lid; Do Nothing(I chose this because I like to plug my laptop into my flat screen via hdmi and have a 55 inch computer screen with my laptop closed and under the tv on the shelf)
7. okay, these next two options (I think) are where my problem lies... From that same 'Select a Power Plan' screen, on the left column, there's two options; Choose when to turn off the display and change when the computer sleeps...
8. Choose when to turn off the display
dim the display - never
turn off the display - 1 hour
put the computer to sleep - 2 hours
9. Change when the computer sleeps
dim the display - never
turn off the display - 1 hour
put the computer to sleep - 2 hours

I've messed around with a few scenarios by selecting different lengths of time for each option, but after I leave to go somewhere and come back a few hours later in the day, I still have to Hold the Power button... I had another Gateway laptop and I would just have to hit any key and the computer would Wake Back Up!

Not sure what the problem is... Please help me choose the right options... Thank you for your help!
