Hello all,

I have old Dell laptop XPS M140, and had windows XP as the OS (my laptop has been worked fine). Then my husband installed and upgraded the OS to windows 7..it worked just fine for a week until in the last few days, I turned on my laptop and it wont start up anymore. I

I saw this message 'windows error recovery' : Windows failed to start. A recent hardware/software change might be the cause....then there're two options to choose : launch start up repair and start windows normally..I tried both options but the laptop still wont start up.
I also got through to the system recovery options, then I got result : launch an internal error occurred. The following information might help to resolve the error : the system cannot find the path specified (0x80070003).

Has anyone ever experienced something like this before? How do I fix this problem? Please I need a help..im not an expert in computer, need to use the laptop , and have no clue what to do. I've been trying to google the problem, but still no luck.

Another question, I also want to go back to my old XP (is that possible? since I don't have windows XP installation CD).
Thanks a lot for any help/answers in advanced!

What is the make and model of your laptop?

Dell, HP, Acer, etc...? and the model number which would be on the front of your laptop or on the back on a sticker for example 1234 XD-123

since your Dell laptop XPS M140 came with winxp and you upgraded, you should have at least a win7 upgrade disk, try inserting the disk, boot and do a startup repair. If that does not work, using the win7 disk, try doing a system restore to a restore point just prior to the problems

@ Jack Bauer : I already mentioned in my thread :) its Dell XPS M140..its old laptop.

@ Sobeit : I did try to insert the win7 upgrade disc ( I only have win7 upgrade disc for 32 bit and upgrade disc for 64bit). I tried to re-installed the win7 by using the upgrade disc (32 bit) but the process couldn't be done even after I reboot the laptop again.
Btw how do I get to that 'system restore' menu? I couldn't even go to 'start' icon on the screen.

@ Old Rich : thanks for the info. I would try to download and make the disc, I just have to use/borrow from another computer, since this is the only laptop I have.

Press F12 at bootup and run the Dell Diagnostics. Your computer shipped with XP and Dell does not support Windows 7 on this computer nor does it have drivers for it. Did you run the Window Update Adviser first to see if this computer was compatible with 7? The only way to go back to Windows XP (which I would advise) is to get a Windows XP Disc.
