OK, so I have Windows 10 home and the dam thing can't see my Windows 7 PC across the LAN. The Windows 7 machine can see the Windows 10 machine fine. It can pull files off shared folders from the 10 machine to the 7 machine just fine. Windows built-in "troubleshooting" has been of exactly zero help (Say's it "fixed" the problem, problem persists, ask it again, does the same thing, no joy).

They are on the same Workgroup. There is no "Homegroup" on either PC.

All this despite the fact that the Windows 10 machine can connect to the internet, see the router, see the printer etc. So, *** can't my Windows 10 PC see my Windows 7 PC?

Not using a "Microsoft Amount", I'm logged in locally.

On your Win 7 machine is your network set as Public, and are unable to change it. If so here is a fix to reset your network to either Home, or Work.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2578723

If it is set as a Home, or Work network check your Advanced Sharing Options under Network and Sharing Center.

The Windows 7 PC is x64 Ultimate Edition and it's set as a Work Network.

alpenadiver's solution is not a solution as the 7 "network" is not, and was never in "public" mode; it's a Work network, and the 10 "network" is a Private network.

MichShaw suggestion changed nothing.

Let me repeat this for those of you who have failed to understand: THE WINDOWS 7 PC CAN SEE THE WINDOWS 10 MACHINE AND NETWORK WITH IT, PULL FILES OF SHARED FOLDERS, ETC. It's just the 10 machine that is herping derps. The 10 PC looks at the same network the 7 machine is looking at and tells me "Duh... no other PCs here. Derp-aderp-a-derp." Meanwhile the 7 PC is telling me "Your 10 machine is retarded because I can see it just fine."

Try again.

OK, weird. Out of desperation I changed the networking "Computer Name" and "Computer Description".... rebooted both PCs, and suddenly the Windows 10 PC is networking as intended. I'm not going to complain, I'm just glad it's working but... that shouldn't have worked. And yet it did.
