cant restore my files can anyone help?

I backed up my computer on my old computer (had vista) and then i built a brand new computer and loaded vista on it and i tried to restore files but it just did do it and it kept saying insert your first disc. I really need to get these files back as they are vey important and they are the only files i have of my old computer! please can you help!!

p.s. the files on the disc (the big files) are .VHD is there any way i can open them?

nope still doesnt work..

i really need to get the data from that vhd file!

i used windows back up which was on windows vista and then when i tried to recover it on another computer it didnt work.

no i was using 20 dvd's(took absolutely ages but wat can u do).
