How did you do the backup - what program did you use for the backup?
Can't open my backup external Maxtor HD.....

I did a back-up on my MAXTOR HD (NTFS/FAT32).
A few weeks ago, I tried to open the HD to pick some data from it, and I couldn't get access to it. When I double click on it, it says "the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable".
I must mention that I'm always using the "safely remove hardware" option.
Help !!

Download the seatools diagnostics and run both the short and long tests to see if there may be a physical problem with the disk. If it passes both tests then try running chkdsk -r and see if it can fix the filesystem. Is the drive formatted to NTFS or FAT32, or do you have two partitions, one of each format. If two partitions can either one of them be accessed?
