I came here to seek help for a similar problem with IE: I get the message that my browser is not setup to accept cookies. I changed the setting to accept all cookies - no good. I tried to download Firefox - can't do that. Don't know if it's related, but I don't get any search criteria when requesting a search (companion). I only get the dog.

Should have come here first. I ordered a register cleaner today, and as noted on this site, it didn't help.

Any help appreciated. (Could it be a virus?)

Here's more information regarding my problem.
When I try to access a certain site, I get the following message: "You cannot login to CourseMill because your browser rejected cookies. Please make sure that it is set to allow cookies and choose to accept cookies if prompted." I am able to access some sites. If I click a link within a site, sometimes nothing happens. When I tried to download Firefox from "http://fox-download.info/firefox/", thinking my problem is with IE7, I get message "This page uses frames, but your browser doesnt support them."

Maybe I should this machine to a technician. I haven't been able to access any of my online classes and finals are coming...
thanks

Enabling cookies in your Browser of choice
Your privacy settings in the browser you are using need to be set to accept first-party cookies. You can change this privacy setting from the top menu of your browser. The exact location of this feature may differ between browsers. To serve as an example, here is how you make this change in Internet Explorer:

* On the menu, go to Tools-> Internet Options -> click the Privacy tab -> click the Advanced button -> check "Override automatic cookie handling," and then choose to "Accept" First-party Cookies.
* In some browsers, you may need to also set the URL as a “Trusted Site.” This is also done from the browser menu. For example, in Internet Explorer, select Options from the Menu. Click on the Security Tab. Next, select Trusted Sites and click on the 'Sites' button to add a new trusted site. Uncheck the box that reads 'Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone'.

You will need to close all your open Browser windows after you make the changes, and then re-launch the browser into a new session and revisit the site

When I press DOWNLOAD for IE6Setup.EXE, I get "Thank You for Downloading". However, I didn't get the download screen to Run or Save the file. This happens with other Web sites. I also recall getting a message about an ActiveX or Java Script problem. This was when the problem started manifesting itself, but I don't remember what software trigger that message. Again, thanks for working with me on this annoying and time consuming problem.

Hmm Internet Explorer 6 is automatically restored on your computer upon
removing IE7 from Add/Remove Programs. So theres no downloading anything.

This problem is really bugging me out! When I clicked Windows Internet Explorer 7 in Add or Remove Programs, I didn't get the REMOVE button. I sampled about 10 other programs, and they all had the REMOVE button.

Are you still unable to d/l any programs? Your system may be so corrupt you may need to reformat. However you might try SFC /scannow ( sfc if not reconized) (Note that there is a space between sfc and /scannow). However, The service pack level on the hard drive must agree with the service pack level on the cd. You have listed SP3 in your specs so you need to make an integrated XP SP3 cd from your XP SP2 cd and the SP3 package at How to Slipstream Service Pack 3 into Windows XP

Use nLite to do the slipstreaming if needed.

Also try d/l Firefox from HERE
