So I just got my Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic card.
Uninstall onboard sound drivers, go into BIOS and disable them, and then turn off the computer after saving changes.
Put the card in the PCI slot, plug everything back in where it needs to go, and computer will start up. All the fans spin up just fine. Problem is, they stay spinned up, when they usually go down to a lower RPM once they hit post. But my computer ISN'T hitting post.

Does it matter exactly which PCI slot it goes in?

Any help is much appreciated guys. I don't want a dead card :(

It shouldn't...assuming it is just a PCI card. In any case, shut down, remove the card, and the try booting and see what happens.

That's not something I wanted to hear :(

I'll try it in the other slots to see if it'll work. If not, I'll have to send it back to the guy and hope he either sends me a new one or refunds it.

EDIT
Pics of the card:

Card arrived like that.
I don't think that those are supposed to be bent :4-thatsba

Unfortunately, have no other computers to test with.

Looks like the card is dead. Tested every slot, and I reset CMOS (asked a friend, said that might help). Still a no go. I'm gonna try to setup a return with the guy I got it from.

If anyone has anymore suggestions though, please voice them!

So I grabbed a box to test with.

My mom's friend wants me to fix her PC. What a coincidence, eh? :)

Installed the card in her Dell box and it boots up just fine (which is odd as her issue was that the PC would only display a blue screen when booting XD )

So the issue is with ME.
The board's PCI slots work fine. My wireless card is currently sitting in the one that I originally tried it in, and it's working just fine.

Maybe an updated BIOS for my board? It's currently on F9 and the latest version is F11. That's all I can really come up with that would possibly fix it.
