Can't do ANYTHING

1049 Views 11 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  dai
I have just run an AVG spyware scan, and it found a few things, I told it to restart and since then I've been able to do fewer and fewer things. I've now got to the stage where I get to Welcome Screen and cant do anything. My mouse and keyboard do not work, BUT I can get the computer to start in safe mode (by pressing F8) so my keyboard isnt broken, but rather nonresponsive. When the computer is in safe mode, I can still not use keyboard or mouse, seems like windows doesnt like it.
If I leave it for a day or so, I can get the mouse to work for a few seconds and can log onto my user account, but by the time its loaded the mouse and keyboard have decided to be unresponsive again...
I would love any input anyone can give.
Thanks in advance

try a system restore to an earlier date when it was working
I can't, because it wont allow me to get far enough in windows to restore the sytem to an earlier date.
Since your KB & Mouse not working inside windows but you can use KB before windows loads,

So you can use Windows repair using Win XP CD, It's the only way could fix the problem and still can use KB and mouse in the mean time.

Minakamal
UPDATE: i have just found out that my mouse works as long as i dont press any keys on the keybord, so here i am using On-Screen Keyboard. so far so good, my mouse has been working for an hour.

now that my mouse is working i have gone into system restore, but there are no restore points. i am not on my user acc because i cannot type my password, i am on another administrator acc. it has ony one restore point, today's. i am unble to look at any months before january.

is it reset each year or something? or are restore points not shared out....
are they wired or wireless
look at their entries in the device manager and see if there is any yellow alongside their entries
if there is double click on their entry and see what it says is wrong

where can i find device manager?

mouse = wireless
kb = wired
both ps2 (mouse uses a usb to ps2 adapter)
go into the control panel/system/device manager
hvae you used the reset button on the mouse and receiver
also if the batteries are low it can cause erratic behaviour
WOO sorted !!!
Thanks so much dai, the device manager said i had a driver error, so i unistalled and reinstalled, now it works again.
I think i'll be looking on device manager everytime i have a hardware related problem, it looks like the place to go.
Thanks so very very much again dai, LIFESAVER:heartlove
