I've only had cable for a few days now and it's been working perfectly. outta no where I get this limited or no connectivity for my Local Area connection. what does this mean?? could it be a temporary thing where it does this sometimes or not?
Well, the 169.254.x.x address is because your machine can't find a DHCP server to obtain it's IP address. Either the cable modem is out, your cable is bad, your NIC is bad, or something happened to your TCP/IP stack.
Try the WINSOCK fix first, it's the cheapest. Also, cycle power on the cable modem and reboot.
