:sigh:I just purchased a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4767 laptop computer. I cannot figure out how to copy a dvd! I have home movies on a dvd and thought I could just pop it in and the computer would load it on my hard drive so I could go back and make a copy - kinda like the making a cd. BUT, that's not working for me. What am I doing wrong? Do I need some other software installed in order to copy or make dvd's? Preloaded are Ulead Movie Maker from Toshiba, Windows DVD Maker and Windows DVD Movie Maker. I'm obviously not very computer literate - can someone please help me???

Thanks for your reply. So I guess all that stuff preloaded on my computer is not what I need? Any suggestion on what software I should buy in order to do dvd's?

Yes, that is the case but I can't seem to figure out how to do so?? I thought I should be able to copy my own homemade dvd's. As I said earlier, the software on my laptop is Windows DVD Maker, Windows Movie Maker and Ulead by Toshiba. When I put the dvd in it just starts playing. Which program should I use and what steps do I take. I obviously don't know what I'm doing! Appreciate all your advice!

Ah I see what you mean now  Sorry.

You could do it in pretty much any of the programs you've mentioned.

When you're playback starts, just quit it, open of any of the programs, Choose import clips (or something similar), find the files on your disk, import them into the program, then save the file to another disk.

Alternatively, you could use third party software, which are designed primarily for that job, copying DVD's. DVD Shrink is one such program (it's free) and has guides on the site to explain the whole process

I hope this helps. Please post back of you need more information, or if something is unclear.
