I have tried to update my graphics card and everytime i attempt to install one it comes up with the error, install failed as soon as the installer loads. I have tried multiple versions, 260.99 driver, 266.58, 267.24 and 271.51 dirvers. All with the same error. I am unable to boot in safe mode as it just hangs on the loading screen after saying DRIVERS/CLASSPNP.sys and does not go any further. I have turned my firewall off and my antivirus programs but still nothing has changed. I have also tried the live support here at Nvidia but still no further to fixing the problem.

I have not idea what else i could do, if it is a faulty graphics card the i cannot get it back on warrenty as BFG dont repair them anymore.

Specs:
Nvidia BFG 9600GT OC2
Windows 7 64bit
Corsair 550W PSU
Intel Core 2 duo 2.4ghz
2GB DDR2 Ram

Hi Turvs,

Try un-installing the current videocard drivers first before you update the videocard drivers. Hope this process will work out for you.

Have you installed the latest SP1? That may help.

But before you do that, can we confirm that you have downloaded the right one. Is your computer put together from separate hardware (custom built), or did you buy it from a retailer with a brand name? The first choice would involve downloading a driver for the specific graphics card (NVIDIA website), while if it came from Acer or Asus, you should get it off their own website for your specific computer model.

Have you tested the gfx card in a known good PC to confirm it is functioning. Not necessary to install the drivers to the test rig as Windows will install the default VGA driver.

d/l your driver and save it in a specific location.....
Open Windows Device Manager
In the Device Manager locate the device you wish to update the drivers for.
Right-click the device and click Properties.
In the Properties window click the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver button.
In the Hardware Update Wizard point Windows to the location of the updated drivers on your hard disk drive
Once drivers have been installed reboot.

I dont have another pc i could use to test it and i have already tried that method brobarapas but still doesnt work.

I also downloaded the sp1 pack and on the site it says use windows updater if only on one PC. So ithink i already have it, but i downloaded and tried anyway. But when i ran the installer it came up with this error message.

This installation package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify this is a valid windows installer package.

It was downloaded directly on MS site so i dont understand why it said that.

There is something wrong with your system if you cant boot in safe mode?

Go to Start, then to Run, and type in "SFC.EXE /SCANNOW" (without the quotes - and with a space between the SFC.EXE and the /SCANNOW). The press Enter

The program may (or it may not) ask you for your Windows XP installation CD - please insert it at the prompt. If it doesn't ask you for the CD this means that it wasn't necessary to replace any files.

(1)Download and install .NET Framework 2.0 from microsoft.com

(2) go now to your m/b web site and d/l the chipset driver for your board, try to install it.

(3) now try to update your video driver

Done a system restore many times but nothing changed. And i will do another scan now to check that.

If necessary i will be willing to do a complete wipe and reinstall of windows. But prefer not too as i have about 100GB of important data and a very slow external hard drive.

Just used everest and it came back as unknown for the motherboard.
