Hello I have a nice Abit KN8 SLI motherbaord and I am using the onboard sound card which is an nVidia(0059) the audio codec is ALC850 I believe. Its really cool because when I plug in my microphone a window comes up and it detects that a microphone has been connected.

If I have my mic unmuted under stereo mixer you can hear sound clearly. But if I go into recording properties to Select the microphone, instead of Stereo mixer, it just wont click. The box lights up but as soon as i let go of the mouse button it goes back to normal and Stereo mixer stays.

Any ideas why this is? I do not have any other recording programs open as I am trying this.

check that the preferred recording device is the onboard sound chip and not any other device, like a webcam or modem.

I have "Use only default devices" checked, is that the same thing?
